Kit does this a bit too. It's just them testing out their voices. They're getting used to being able to make different noises. It's fun to watch, isn't it?!
Yes. Ian has been growling for months. He does it while he eats, while he is crawlng across the room, while we are out. He does it all day long and I cannot tell you how many times someone has stopped us out in public to ask about it. I like to think it is common and notmal but I dont know anyone else (besides you now) who has a child who also growls. I was starting to think Ian was a little weird you know? :) He does it ALL DAY LONG. Im immune to it now I dont really notice it but boy do others think its strange.
